Washington, D.C., the District of Columbia, also referred to as Washington or D.C. The capital and the federal district of the United States. It is on the east bank of the Potomac River and forms a southwest and southern border. With Virginia and Maryland on the remaining sides.

The city was named after one of the Founding Fathers and the first President of the United States, George Washington. And the Federal District was named after the American female incarnation of Columbia. Home to the United States federal government and several international organizations. The city is a major political capital of the world. It is one of the most visited cities in the United States, with over 20 million visitors as of 2016.

New York City and Philadelphia served as the capital of the United States. In 1790, Congress chose the District of Columbia as the permanent seat of government. George Washington helped choose the site for the city. The Potomac River in Washington, D.C., was excavated on land transferred from Maryland and Virginia. (they returned the Virginia portion south of the river to the state in 1846). French-born American engineer, builder, and metropolitan planner Pierre-Charles L’Enfant worked out the primary idea for the capital. Which features vast avenues. from the Capitol through gridded streets and many circles and parks.

Congress first met in Washington in 1800. They did not complete the construction of the first phase of the Capitol until 1826. Today, millions of people come to Washington, D.C. Visit the Capitol, White House, and Library of Congress. And City Building each year. Many museums and monuments. This flower is the rose of American beauty.
